Gamer.LK

Gamer.LK is a multi genre video game community site powered by Sri Lankans from all over the world. Committed to promoting PC and console gaming culture in the island, GLK is open to gamers from all genders, ages and ethnicities.

Gamer.LK has pioneered many projects to help bring together Sri Lankan gamers from all over the country, including the introduction of Weekend Gaming and Sri Lankas first ever gaming server for Counter Strike.

Gamer.LK is recognised as the central community where gamers from all parts of the country, clans and teams gather to discuss local as well as international e-sports news and casual gaming.

Goals

SLCG and the goals it's based on

The idea for the Sri Lanka Cyber Games tournament was conceived with a number of goals in mind. At a time when video games and e-sports is still in its infancy in Sri Lanka, it is important to foster the local community and concentrate on building up competitive e-sports within the country. We set about organising SLCG with these goals as priority:

Providing the gamers of Sri Lanka a central event to gather at

Apart from small tournaments held at gaming-cafes around Sri Lanka, there were no large-scale tournaments that gamers from all areas and interests could gather and interact at. The Gamer.LK website strives to gather all Sri Lankan gamers under one flag on the Internet, and SLCG is the place for gamers in real life, once an year, every year.

Building Competitiveness

Video gaming for the majority of Sri Lanka is a leasure time activity. We want to promote video games as a sport, an e-sport, which will present the more serious gamers of the country a path to follow. A large scale event such as SLCG gives competitive e-sports teams a goal on the horizon; taking part and making their mark in one of the biggest gaming tournaments in Sri Lanka.

Reward skill

E-sports just like any other sport requires a process of practice and training in order to be a skilled player. We aim to reward teams and individuals for their hard work and excellence in the field of e-sports at the SLCG prize giving held at the end of the tournament.

Structure and Standards

A standardised structure for e-sports is important for the progress of the culture in the country. With SLCG, we aim to uphold international standards related to tournament structure, organising, game setup, rules and regulations. We hope with the large amount of youth being exposed to the standards we strive to uphold, we will be influencing a new generation that plays according to and expects good standards from their e-sports related activities.

Promote e-sports as the market of the future

Through SLCG, we hope companies and sponsors will take an interest in Sri Lankan e-sports which will ultimately lead to e-sports events that get the sponsorship they deserve and teams that are paid to play. With the birth of SLCG in 2008 we managed to expose this new market to big name companies such as Intel and Dialog Telekom who stepped forward to sponsor the event. We hope to increase awareness of the e-sports market and promote it as the new market for compaines to invest in.

Include everybody

One of the biggest factors behind the idea of SLCG was the lack of centralisation when it came to competitive tournaments. Gaming cafes in the country held their mini-tournaments every month, but it was limited only to those who frequented the cafes due to lack of exposure. We organise SLCG with the goal of extending a hand to gamers throughout the country. We are especially looking towards expanding the reach of SLCG this year.
